Joseph has over thirty years experience in the practice of intellectual property law including preparation and prosecution of utility and design patents, foreign patent prosecution, due diligence review in an M&A context, freedom to operate and invalidity analyses and trademarks. Over his career, Joseph has developed an expertise in a wide range of technologies within the mechanical, biomechanical, electro-mechanical and electrical arts, including medical systems and devices, orthopedics, computer software, cloud applications, blockchain technology, semiconductor manufacturing, construction systems, firearms, photonic and optics systems, home appliances, personal care and grooming devices. 

Joseph is particularly focused on advising clients on approaches to maximize the value of their intellectual property while minimizing risks of litigation by competitors. Leveraging his extensive background and experience, Joseph can address intellectual property issues from different perspectives to develop solutions tailored to the clients’ specific needs and in concert with their business objectives.  

Prior to joining RowanTree Law Group, Joseph was Senior Counsel at Ryan, Mason Lewis LLC of Melville, New York.  Joseph was also a Principal and Founding Member of Carter, Deluca Farrell & Schmidt, LLP also of Melville, New York and a Partner at Dilworth & Barrese, LLP of Uniondale, New York.  

Outside of his legal career, Joseph served as President of the Foundation Board of Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) of Smithtown, New York from 2002-2017 and as a Member of the Agency Board of DDI since 2014. Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) is a non-profit, multi-site agency serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism and related disorders. 

Joseph is blessed with three beautiful children and an incredible wife of thirty-three years.
