Carson brings almost 20 years of experience in patent and trademark procurement and prosecution to RowanTree Law. Prior to co-founding RowanTree Law Group, Carson was a Partner at Fincham Downs LLC, a boutique Intellectual Property law firm based in Ridgefield, CT. He has also served as in-house IP Counsel at Walker Digital, an invention laboratory whose most well-known spin-off was priceline.com, managing the vending machine and remote workforce/Homeland Security patent assets, among others. Carson also served as Associate IP Counsel for Buckley, Maschof & Talwalkar LLC in New Canaan, CT. Prior to his legal career, Carson worked as Associate Engineer and Network Administrator positions at Dewberry in New Haven, CT.
Carson has extensive experience in preparing and prosecuting patents and patent applications in the representative arts of mobile device applications, semi-conductors, heat exchangers, electro-mechanical and mechanical devices, medical devices, wind turbines, “smart grid” systems, aerodynamics systems and processes, cryptographic algorithms, information systems, online advertising, text-to-speech, graphics, software, and business methods, as well as in preparing freedom-to-operate and validity opinions in various technologies. He has had significant successful experience representing clients in front of the Board of Patent Appeals and is strongly committed to promoting open and frequent channels of communication with patent office examiners, in an effort to provide the most efficient prosecution strategy. In addition to his patent work, Carson's expertise extends to trademark procurement and prosecution and building a trademark and branding portfolio for his clients.
Having studied and worked in the environmental field as both a civil engineer and attorney, Mr. Fincham is heavily involved in promoting green technologies (with and beyond the scope of his IP legal work) and has assisted clients in participating in the USPTO's Green Tech Pilot Program. Mr. Fincham has also been an active participant in the Pace Energy and Climate Center (formerly known as the Pace Energy Project) of Pace Law School.
Carson is a committed supporter of principles of sustainability and protecting the environment, and endeavors to put his commitment into practice by helping RowanTree Law Group operate a mostly paperless law practice, building an Energy Star certified home and investing as both a business stakeholder and inventor of an electric car charging technology. Carson is a proud father of 3 and serves as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Ridgefield, CT.
