FREDERICK F. ROSENBERGER III
Of Counsel
Fred brings over 17 years of patent experience to RowanTree Law Group, including patent prosecution, client counseling and global portfolio management, patent litigation, and post-grant reviews. While Fred’s technical degrees are in the field of mechanical engineering, he has expertise in a wide range of technologies, such as semiconductor devices and manufacturing; general mechanical, electrical, and optical devices; HVAC&R systems; automotive systems; battery systems and energy storage; alternative and renewable energy technologies; medical devices; micro/nanoscale systems; and business methods and software.
Prior to joining RowanTree Law Group, Fred was an Associate at Klarquist Sparkman, LLP, one of the preeminent firms in the Pacific Northwest focusing on intellectual property law. He also served as one of the founding Principals at Shapiro, Gabor and Rosenberger, PLLC, a boutique patent law firm in Virginia, which was among the top 300 firms in the country in 2016 and 2017, obtaining over 220 patents per year. Fred also spent more than a decade with the intellectual property practice group at the Virginia office of Miles & Stockbridge, P.C., a general practice firm headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. Fred’s practice also benefits from his time as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he spent almost 3 years examining patent applications in the field of invisible radiation detection.
Before pursuing a career in patent law, Fred was an engineer in industry, first as an engineering intern at a hydraulic rescue tool company and later as a co-op engineer at a research and development division of an automotive components manufacturer focused on the development of anti-noise technology. After graduate school, Fred was the first employee at Calibrant Biosystems, a start-up company focused on the development of microfluidic devices and automated systems for genomic and proteomic analyses.
Fred is proud to counsel all clients, from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups and universities. His ability to understand his clients’ technologies and his deep knowledge of patent law have been key to the trust they put in him to handle their most complex patent matters. Having benefited from various mentors in his life, Fred looks forward to sharing this knowledge with the next generation of scientist and engineers. Fred is also a devoted husband and proud dad of three beautiful children and a rescue pup.
